Studying with a disability can present additional challenges. Wageningen University offers guidance and facilities to help you get the most out of your studies and prevent study delays.

A functional limitation includes, among other things:

•A physical disability, for example, you may use a wheelchair or have a visual or hearing impairment
•A (chronic) illness
•Neurodivergence: AD(H)D, dyslexia, autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
•Long-term psychological conditions (such as depression or an anxiety disorder)

 

How does WUR support you?

Students with a functional impairment can receive support from:

•You can arrange a lot yourself. Find out how to do this here, or go directly to Osiris->cases.  
•If you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch with the student dean or your study adviser.
The student dean can inform you about arrangements, advise you on educational adjustments and request these from the examination board.
Your study adviser can help you choose courses, adjust your study plan and organise facilities.
•The student dean will assess the suitability and necessity of any adjustments, possibly in consultation with the student psychologist and/or student physician.

What facilities are available?


1. Educational and examination facilities 


Examples include:

•25% extra examination time
•Quiet examination room
•Study materials provided in advance
•More flexible deadlines or attendance requirements
•Computer-based examinations, possibly with specialised software
 How do you apply for additional provisions?
•For extra examination time only (in cases of dyslexia, AD(H)D, ASD), you can submit a request directly via Osiris->Cases. Note: you will need a medical statement
•For additional or different adjustments, make an appointment with a student dean
•The Examination Board makes the final decision. The student dean files a request on behalf of the student. 
•Approved facilities will be listed in Osiris. You can select them yourself when registering for a course. TIP: Apply for your study-related facilities in good time; allow at least 4 weeks for approval!
 

2. Student grants and allowances 

Via DUO 

Dutch Students with a disability or chronic illness may be eligible for special arrangements through DUO, such as: 

•Extension of the performance grant (by one year) 
•Extension of the diploma completion period 
•New student finance for a different programme
•Conversion of the performance grant if studies are terminated due to illness 

Additionally, you may qualify for a study allowance via your municipality. Contact the municipality where you are registered.


Via WUR

•If you fall behind in your studies due to a functional impairment, you can apply for financial compensation
•Report this within two months of the delay arising to a student dean
•Note: Compensation does not apply if DUO already grants an extra year of student grant 
•Check the student charter for the full text and criteria of the Financial Student Support regulation (FOS)
